December 2007

December 19, 2007

Well, we’ve been doing a whole lot of CPT, and not much blogging.

Please check if your animatic has been successfully exported and saved in the public drive, along with your 30 second educational video clip. The files that weren’t accessible before should now be accessible. Let the teacher know otherwise.

Make sure you have scheduled to shoot your video footage for your racism/eco-clip project.

If you have any down time during video production, please begin research in preparation of the photography module. This includes: basic rules of composition, photo techniques (framing, cropping, lighting, etc), and creativity/originality.

Yearbook Update Oct.30/07

October 30, 2007

1. Please post a comment as to where you are so far on your yearbook page layout.

(Boxes placed, colors chosen for background, pictures taken on page theme, etc.)

2.  What do you need to do next?

Animatic Progress

October 29, 2007

Please post a comment here on your progress on the animatic assignment (what you have done so far) AND your goals for this period. Have this assignment completed by Thursday November 1 so we can view them in class. Remember to add audio by reading from your script and adding any sound effects that you need.

Field Trip Follow-up

October 24, 2007

On Tuesday October 23, the class toured the Canada Saskatchewan Production Studios, as well as the CBC Saskatchewan television and radio facilities.

Please construct and save a journal-style response in Word, then post it to this blog entry as a comment.

Your entry needs to reflect what you learned about television news, radio and film production from the tour of the sound stages and the CBC facilities. Also describe what was the most interesting thing for you. Be detailed and specific in your response.

EcoClip Storyboarding Skill Assignment

October 9, 2007

NOTICE: DUE TO THE UPCOMING PROVINCIAL ELECTION, THE CONTEST SITE AND LINKS ARE UNAVAILABLE UNTIL NOVEMBER 8. THIS ASSIGNMENT IS NOW DUE NOV. 9.

(PS Sorry for shouting)

1-View the video featured on the “Past Winners” section of the EcoClip Contest (see Blogroll). Use headphones if you are in the lab.

2-Storyboard the first 10 frames (from title screen to the last frame right before the screen that says “The Problem has a Solution”). Hint: Use more than 1 frame for scenes in which the scene or shot changes significantly. For example, if the main character walks out of the scene, draw one frame with the character in the shot, and then one without the person.

3-For each of the frames, describe the shot used (name it). For the audio, make notes to describe any music or sound effects. For dialogue (the talking parts), make reference to the script (instead of writing out the script,  refer to it as if it existed, such as ”see script scene 1″.

4-Hand your completed work in by Friday October 26, with your name clearly marked on it.

CPT10 – Sept 26 Instructions

September 26, 2007

Your previous assignment was to look at some careers in the Production industry, and prepare a group presentation in either audio, video or multimedia production. When this is done, go to the online CPT modules, and complete the “Production Crew” Assignment. It is in the Portfolio section.

Hopefully you have been going over the Pre-production section of the video production module. We are going to take a closer look at camera angles and movement. Make sure you have taken summary notes on 4 camera positions, 10 framing shots, and 4 standard camera movements before moving on. Include a simple sketch to demonstrate each one.

The next assignment is to take digital photos demonstrating these 18 items, and then create a tutorial powerpoint to illustrate them. You will be working in the same group of four, and will have to take turns with other groups in using the digital cameras.

CPT10 Overview of skills needed to review for photo-editing

September 20, 2007

To be able to use and manipulate digital images in this course, you will need to know:

  1. How to open Gimp2 (photo-editing software)
  2. How to create an empty canvas to draw on (and set the size)
  3. How to add content (paint, draw, erase and add text): bitmap vs vector
  4. How to zoom in and out
  5. How to save a file (need to add an extension)
  6. How to open an existing image
  7. How to select part of an image (several ways)
  8. How to bring part of an image into another image (maybe get into “layers”)
  9. How to scale an image (make it bigger or smaller)
  10. How to clone an area
  11. How to fade an image so that it can be used as a background.
  12. How to make an image that looks to dark look better.

Check these off for yourself as you are able to do them.

CPT10 September 18

September 18, 2007

Many of you have started a “treatment” for a video project. Please finish that this period, and then type up a summary to post in the Begin section of the Online CPT Modules (go to the portfolio section, then “The Producer”.

Also, please begin the Pre-production section of the online lessons. Listen and take notes of the key points.

NOTE: The power was out this morning in over haf of Saskatchewan (check out this news article), which may disrupt some services (for example, the CPT10 Online Modules, which I believed are based out of Regina). In the case that these aren’t available this morning, I will alter the plan for today.

September 14th Update

September 14, 2007

Wow, there was definitely some confusion as to passwords and usernames today.  In class I hope you were able to log into your Josten’s account.  While using this account you should have experimented with moving around the box format, adding text, and using different fonts.  If you know how to upload a picture and use it, you are definitely ahead of the game!

Have a great weekend,

Mr. Stinson & Miss Bulicz

CPT10 September 12 – Website Evaluation Activity

September 12, 2007

Go to the SWSD Schools Page .

There are 26 schools in SWSD with home pages, including DHS.

Using the handout provided in class, evaluate 5-8 of the sites, depending on how many you can get done in class. Rate each category from 1-10 and write your comments in the space provided. Visit as many of the links within each site as you can, in order to give a fair assessment.

Note: 10 being exceptional, 1 being very poor, etc, and NA being not applicable (none used, as in pictures, animations, and music)

Use the example handout on the back of the class handout as a guide. If you need more space than is provided on the handout chart, make your own chart.

If you have any remaining time in the period, please continue to sketch out or draft ideas for yearbook page layouts or other projects.

Have a great day!
